Acupuncture
Our body is viewed as an interconnected 'organs' and 'meridians' system. Meridians are paths throughout the body where energy, or Qi (pronounced “chee”) flows. Acupuncture activates the free flow of Qi to boost body function and maintain good health. On the contrary, a disruption in Qi flow results in symptoms and creates illness. Modern research has shown that there are extra nerves located along the meridians. The needles stimulate the nerves to activate parts of the brain that are related to the body parts being treated.

An acupuncturist will place fine, sterilized disposable needles at specific Acupoints on the body. The needles are tiny, just a little thicker than a cat’s whisker. There might be various sensations caused by the needles during treatments. You may experience a faint numbness, heaviness, tingling or dull ache. You may also feel a sensation of energy spreading – this is called the “Qi Sensation” signaling us that we have ‘grasped’ the energy. Qi is being activated by the needles which promote natural healing to help immunity, physical and emotional health. All these reactions are good responses showing that the treatment is working. The depth of the insertion varies depending on different parts of the body as well as the individual.

Acupuncture is safe. It is an all-natural, drug free therapy with no side effects except the slight sensations when the needles are inserted. Acupuncture is also safe for children. In some cases children respond more quickly than adults because most children naturally have better circulation than adults, and their bodies haven’t been ‘contaminated’ as much.
Acupuncture has been an effective treatment of health care that has evolved into a complete and holistic medical system since the 1970s. It is often used as a complementary treatment alongside western medicine to maximize success in treating problems with patients.
